(A) Leak detection and repair. City crews and personnel will look for and report evidence of leaks in the water distribution system. Meter readers are asked to watch for and report signs of illegal connections, so they can be addressed quickly. Areas of the water distribution system in which numerous leaks and line breaks occur are targeted for replacement as funds are available.
(B) Water loss accounting. The City of Canton staff compares monthly master meter measurements with monthly water usage based on meter readings (i.e. water sales) to identify water loss. This information is used to evaluate the integrity of the water distribution system.
