(A) The office of City Secretary, after the effective date of this section, shall be filled by appointment by the City Council of the City of Canton, Texas.
(B) The City Secretary shall perform the duties prescribed by the Tex. Revised Civil Statutes, Art. 1000 and he or she shall perform such other duties as may be required of him or her by law, ordinance, resolution, or order of the City Council.
(C) The City Secretary shall be appointed for an indefinite period and shall be subject to discharge at the will of the City Council. He or she shall receive compensation as the City Council shall fix from time to time, and shall furnish a surety bond as may be required by the City Council, the premium to be paid by the City Council.
(D) The effective date of this section shall be 10-9-1956.
