§ 172.05 CONNECTION SPECIFICATIONS.
   (A)   A separate and independent building sewer shall be provided for every building, except where otherwise permitted by the village.
   (B)   Old building sewers may be used in connection with new buildings only when they are found, on examination and test by the Superintendent, to meet all requirements of this subchapter.
   (C)   The building sewer shall be cast iron, ABS or PVC, all meeting ASTM specifications, or other suitable material as governed by the Uniform Plumbing Code, the current edition, and as shall be approved by the Superintendent or Council. Joints shall be tight and waterproof as required by the Uniform Plumbing Code for the pipe installed.
   (D)   The size and slope of the building sewers shall be subject to the approval of the Superintendent, but in no event shall the diameter be less than four inches for a single family or duplex residential unit, nor less than six inches for all other uses. The slope of such four-inch pipe shall be not less than one fourth of an inch per foot or sufficient slope to maintain a two-foot per second velocity in the sewer.
   (E)   No building sewer shall be laid parallel to or within three feet of any bearing wall which might thereby be weakened. The depth shall be sufficient to afford protection from frost. The building sewer shall be laid at a uniform grade and in straight alignment insofar as possible. Changes in direction shall be made only with properly curved pipes and fittings.
   (F)   In all buildings in which any building drain is too low to permit gravity flow to the public sewer, sanitary sewage carried by such drains shall be lifted by approved artificial means and discharged to the building sewer. No water-operated sewage ejector shall be used.
   (F)   All excavations required for the installation of a building sewer shall be open trench work unless otherwise approved by the Superintendent. Pipe laying and backfill shall be performed in accordance with ASTM specifications, except that no backfill shall be placed until the work has been inspected by the Superintendent or his or her representative.
   (H)   All joints and connections shall be made gastight and watertight.
      (1)   PVC pipe joints shall be of either molded rubber, elastomeric gasketed or rubber-ring type, all as defined and approved in the Uniform Plumbing Code.
      (2)   Cast-iron joints shall be either caulked, threaded, flexible compressions, factory-fabricated, mechanical, elastomeric or rubber-ring type.
      (3)   Joints between clay pipe and pipe of other materials shall be made with approved adapter fittings or prefabricated elastomeric sealing rings or sleeves.
      (4)   Other jointing materials and methods may be used by approval of the Superintendent.
