§ 93.03 OUTDOOR BURNING.
   (A)   For the purposes of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply:
      (1)   “NON-PORTABLE FIRE PIT.” A depression dug into the ground with a fire area of no more than 16 square feet with an enclosure made from stones, masonry, or any non-combustible material that extends at least eight inches above the ground. A non-portable fire pit shall not be placed within 25 feet of a structure, property line, or combustible material.
      (2)   “PORTABLE FIRE PIT.” A commercially built above-ground portable wood or gas burning device regulated as a portable outdoor fireplace according to the International Fire Code. Examples of portable fire pits include, but are not limited to, commercially produced metal or stone Chimineas, portable fire tables, fireplaces, and burn bowls utilized for outdoor burning. Portable fire pits and fireplaces shall not be operated within 15 feet of a structure or combustible materials.
      (3)   “RUBBISH.” Combustible and non-combustible materials such as household garbage, paper, rags, cartons, leaves, grass clippings, yard debris, construction and building materials or anything that violates regulations promulgated by the South Carolina Forestry Commission or the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.
   (B)   It shall be unlawful for any person to burn rubbish anywhere within the city limits.
   (C)   Fires in portable and non-portable fire pits shall not be left unattended until completely extinguished and must have a water hose, fire extinguisher, or other means of extinguishment available at the location of the fire.
   (D)   Only natural split firewood or manufactured fireplace logs may be burned in portable and non-portable fire pits.
