8-1-16: FIRE PROTECTION FITTINGS:
Pipes for fire protection purposes shall be fitted with such fixtures only as are needed for fire protection, and such fixtures shall be sealed by the public works superintendent. Whenever practicable, the hose shall be kept attached to the fixtures, or suspended conveniently for use in case of fire and shall be under the control of said superintendent at all times. All fire hydrants shall be under the control of, and shall be kept in repair by the public works superintendent; provided, that the fire department and street department shall have free access to said hydrants. It shall be unlawful for any other person to operate any fire hydrant or to attempt to draw water from, or to obstruct the approach to. Wrenches for fire hydrants shall be furnished by the public works superintendent to the fire department and the street department, and it shall be unlawful for any person having charge of said wrenches to permit the same to be taken from their accustomed place of deposit, or to be used for any purpose other than that authorized by the superintendent.
