A. Required: All premises using the city public water system shall be equipped with a functioning water meter furnished and approved by the city. All new water meters for new connections shall be paid for by the property owner, the applicant for water services, or the developer or by the consumer. Water meters shall be installed in an unobstructed location that can be easily accessed by a meter reader.
B. Reading: The city shall read or cause to be read every water meter used in or outside of the city as frequently as the city may determine is necessary so that the bills may be sent out at a time designated by the city. At any time when it may be difficult or inconvenient to read the meters, the city may elect to not read the water meters and may estimate usage based on past consumption or may charge a flat rate as set by resolution of the city council. If at a later reading the estimate is shown to be high, the user will be given credit for any overage paid.
C. Downsizing And Upsizing: Water users shall have the option to reduce the size of water meters larger than five-eighths by three-fourths inch (5/8 x 3/4") size servicing their lot or parcel of land by written notification to the city of Cambridge. Upon receipt of such written notification, the monthly charges for the water service will be based upon the requested reduced size beginning the following month. The city of Cambridge may change the water meter to the requested reduced size at its convenience and expense. Requests to increase the size of a water meter will only be considered when a payment equal to the cost of a complete new installation of the larger meter and service line size has been made to the city, regardless of the size of the existing water meter and service line, and even if the existing water meter and service line is the size requested. Nonresidential users must continue to meet Idaho state plumbing code requirements. (Ord. 2-2014, 5-12-2014)
