§ 32.21 TOWN ATTORNEY.
   (A)   Election. There shall be elected by the Council at the time of the regular election of officers a lawyer of good, reputable standing as Town Attorney, who must have had at least two years of experience at the bar. The Attorney shall hold office for two years and until his or her successor is elected and qualified.

   (B)   Duties and compensation. It shall be the duty of the Town Attorney whenever called upon by the Council, or the necessity arises, to give his or her advice and direction to the Council, or any member thereof, or to the Clerk/Treasurer and Chief of Police on any and all legal questions which may arise in the course of the administration of the municipal government, or in the discharge of the duties of their respective offices; and whenever required to do so by Council, he or she shall give his or her legal opinion in writing. He or she shall draw or supervise the drawing or drafting of all ordinances and other instruments of writing relative to the business of the municipality when required to do so by the Council or any member thereof; shall, whenever notified to do so, attend the municipal meetings and shall conduct the correspondence on all legal subjects which it may become necessary to investigate; and, generally, he or she shall be careful that the Council and officers fall into no error of law in the administration and management of the business and affairs of the municipality. The Town Attorney shall receive a salary as fixed by the Council.
