§ 36.01 CHIEF OF POLICE.
   (A)   There is hereby created the office of Police Chief of the city, which shall be by appointment of the Mayor and approval by a vote of majority of the city legislative body.
   (B)   No fixed term of office is authorized. In the event of a vacancy a successor shall be appointed by the Mayor subject to the approval of the city legislative body.
   (C)   The powers and duties of the Police Chief are as follows: Plans, directs, and exercises general supervision over the work of the Department; formulates and enforces regulations, work methods, and procedures; makes or reviews all personnel assignments within the Department; reviews activities and reports of officers; makes recommendations to the Mayor for the appointment, promotion and dismissal of officers; enforces disciplinary measures when necessary; ascertains that recruits and regular offices receive adequate training in modern police methods and procedures; directs the preparation and maintenance of police records and files; directs the investigation of major criminal offenses; sees that reports are prepared for the Mayor, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation; conducts division correspondence, requisitions supplies, and recommends the purchase of necessary equipment; meets with and answers questions for the public; attends police conferences and meets with various commissions and citizen groups; performs related work as required.
   (D)   The oath of office shall be administered by the County Judge-Executive of Trigg County. The Police Chief shall faithfully execute the duties and responsibilities of the office of Police Chief and enforces the laws of the State of Kentucky and the city as prescribed by law and ordinance.
   (E)   The office of the Chief of Police shall be paid in an amount as established by ordinance from time to time.
