For the purpose of this subchapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
ALARM. Any electronic or mechanical device which emits any signal, whether electronic, audible, silent or recorded, and which is designed, used, or intended for the detection of an authorized intrusion or attempted intrusion into a building, structure, or premises to signal an actual or attempted robbery; or for the detection of fire or products of combustion to signal a fire; or initiate a response for medical assistance.
ALARM ADMINISTRATOR. A person or persons designated by the town to administer, control, and review false alarm reduction efforts for the town.
FALSE ALARM.
(1) An alarm dispatch request to Butner Public Safety, Granville County 911 or other law enforcement agency/fire department eliciting a police or fire response, when a situation requiring an immediate response does not in fact exist and the responding agency finds no evidence of a criminal or attempted criminal offense or fire after having completed a timely investigation of the alarm site.
(2) An alarm will not be considered false if it is determined that the alarm was caused by:
(a) A natural or human-made catastrophe such as tornadoes, floods, earthquakes, or other similarly violent conditions;
(b) Vandalism causing physical damage to property; and
(c) The test of a local alarm system by an authorized alarm agent or alarm company employee who is present at the premises inspecting, servicing, repairing, or installing the alarm.
MALICIOUS ALARM. Intentional activation of a fire alarm system by a person or the intentional activation of an alarm by a minor because of a failure to be supervised by an adult over the age of 18.
RUNAWAY ALARM. An alarm system that produces repeated alarm signals that do not appear to be caused by separate human actions or that produces three separate signals within a 24-hour period.
