§ 97.04 ENGINE COMPRESSION BRAKES PROHIBITED.
   (A)   No vehicle shall use engine compression brakes or an engine retarder system to stop of slow down said vehicles if the system causes the vehicle’s motor to race in such a manner as to cause the exhaust system to emit loud, cracking, backfiring, or chattering noise unusual to its normal operation. This practice is commonly known as “jake braking.”
   (B)   Violation of this section may be punishable by a fine not to exceed $500.
   (C)   This prohibition must be designated by appropriate signs placed at or near the city limits. (IC 9-20-1-3(C)(2))
