381.03 TAXICAB/BUSINESS LICENSING AND REGISTRATION.
   Every person or business engaged in the business of operating taxicabs in the City shall pay an annual license fee therefor of fifty dollars ($50.00) which shall include the right to operate one such taxicab. When more than one such taxicab shall be operated by such person or business, an additional fee of twenty-five dollars ($25.00) per annum shall be paid for such additional taxicab so operated.
   Prior to issuing a taxicab license for the actual vehicle intended to be utilized as a taxicab, the Chief of Police, or his or her designee, shall inspect the vehicle to insure the same is safe for operation and free from any material defects which would make the same hazardous to operate.
   No person shall engage in driving a taxicab without first obtaining the proper taxicab business operator's license under this section. A violation of this division shall be an unclassified misdemeanor, and punishable by up to a one thousand-dollar ($1,000.00) fine and up to five hundred (500) hours of community service. If an individual has more than one conviction for a
violation of this section within a three year period, a violation of this section shall be a misdemeanor of the fourth degree, punishable but up to thirty (30) days in jail and a fine not to exceed two-hundred fifty dollars ($250.00).
   Each separate violation of this section shall be considered a new offense and punishable according to the provisions herein. (Ord. 20-2023. Passed 6-6-23.)
