§ 71.57 MAXIMUM LAWFUL SPEEDS; ALTERATION.
   (A)   Maximum lawful speeds. Except when a special hazard exists that requires lower speed for compliance with § 71.56, the limits specified in this section are the maximum lawful speeds. A person may not drive a vehicle on a highway at a speed in excess of the following maximum limits:
      (1)   Thirty (30) miles per hour in an urban district.
      (2)   Thirty (30) miles per hour, except as provided in subdivisions (A)(3) and (A)(4).
      (3)   Twenty (20) miles per hour in a school zone.
      (4)   Ten (10) miles per hour in an alley.

   (B)   Alteration of maximum speed limits. The maximum speed limits set forth in division (A) of this section may be altered as follows:
      (1)   By the Indiana Department of Transportation under I.C. 9-21-5-12.
      (2)   By the transportation finance authority under I.C. 8-15-2-17.2.
      (3)   In work sites, by all jurisdictions under I.C. 9-21-5-11.
