(a) The authorized strength of the Police Department of the Village shall be as follows:
(1) A Village Marshal who shall be designated as the Chief of Police.
(2) Up to seventeen full-time Deputy Marshals, from among whom the Mayor may, subject to confirmation by Council, designate one as Lieutenants of Police, three as Sergeants of Police and the remaining Deputy Marshals shall be designated as Patrolmen.

(b) Each of the above officers shall furnish a surety bond in the sum of one thousand dollars ($1,000), conditioned upon the applicant faithfully performing his or her duties as such officer.
