(A) All hydrants, hose connections and nozzles shall conform to Fire Department standards. Hydrants shall be supplied by a main of not less than six inches. For average conditions, hydrants shall be placed about 50 feet from the building protected. Where it is impossible to place them at this distance, they may be put nearer, provided that they are authorized by the Fire Chief.
(B) No smaller than six-inch pipe shall be installed underground in yard systems for mains or hydrant branches. In moderately large plants, a loop system, because of its larger carrying capacity, shall be used, unless otherwise authorized by the Fire Chief. The size of pipe supplying the yard system shall be determined by the Fire Chief, due consideration being given to the construction and occupancy of the yard system and to the volume and pressure of water.
