(A) An Auxiliary Police Unit is hereby established in the city.
(B) The Director of Public Safety shall direct the organization of such Auxiliary Police Unit, shall prescribe all rules and regulations for the administration, control, training and conduct of such Unit, and shall perform all necessary administrative acts relating to the Unit.
(C) Members of the Auxiliary Police Unit are not eligible for membership in the Police Relief and Pension Funds under state law, nor are they in the classed civil service of the city.
(D) The Mayor is hereby authorized as otherwise provided by law to employ up to 15 auxiliary police officers in the Auxiliary Police Unit in the city.
(E) The Director of Public Safety shall appoint an administrative head of the Auxiliary Police Unit. Said administrative head’s rank shall be that of Captain.
(F) All auxiliary police officers shall receive $250 as an initial allowance for uniforms. Thereafter, each auxiliary police officer shall receive $100 as an annual uniform maintenance allowance.
(G) The administrative head of the auxiliary police shall be granted a yearly salary as compensation for time spent on the necessary scheduling and related paperwork in connection with the operation of the Auxiliary Police Unit. Said salary shall be as determined from time to time by Council.
