Licensed drivers may operate golf carts on all designated streets within the town in compliance with the following.
(A) Golf carts must be equipped with: efficient brakes, reliable steering apparatus, safe tires, a rearview mirror and red reflectorized warning devices in both the front and rear.
(B) Golf carts may be operated on the designated streets within the town limits of the town during the hours between sunrise and sunset.
(C) Golf carts may be operated on the designated streets within the town limits during the hours between sunset and sunrise only if the golf cart is equipped with: headlights, brake lights, turn signals and a windshield, in addition to all other equipment required by division (A) above.
(D) Golf carts may be operated on the sidewalk adjacent to state roads and highways within the jurisdictional territory of the town only when the sidewalk is at least eight feet in width.
(E) The maximum speed of golf carts operated on the designated streets is limited to 15 mph, unless a slower speed limit is posted. If a slower speed limit is posted, the maximum speed of the golf cart shall be limited to said posted speed limit.
(F) The maximum speed of golf carts operated on an authorized sidewalk noted in division (D) above is limited to five mph.
(G) The town shall post appropriate signs or otherwise informs residents that the ordinance exists and applies to such sidewalks.
(H) Except as specifically provided herein, operators of golf carts within the town are required to observe all other traffic laws as if they were operating a motor vehicle.
(I) Operation of golf carts on State Road A1A/North Ocean Boulevard is not permitted except pursuant to authorization from the State Department of Transportation pursuant to F.S. Ch. 316, and shall only be at golf cart approved intersections regulated by an approved traffic-control device and shall be solely for the purpose of crossing the state road to reach the town streets and property on the other side thereof.
(J) Notwithstanding other provisions of this section, every driver of a vehicle, including a golf cart, shall exercise due care to avoid colliding with any pedestrian. Every driver of a vehicle, including a golf cart, shall yield to pedestrians at all times.
