The village shall have a Chief of Police, appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Village Council. The Chief of Police need not be a resident of the village at the time of his or her appointment but shall become a resident thereof within six months after his or her appointment by the Mayor and confirmation by the Council unless such residence requirement is waived by Council. The Chief shall continue in office until removed therefrom as provided by R.C. § 737.171.
