(A) Every person, firm or corporation operating any motor vehicle along and on any public street or highway within the city, for the purpose of affording a means of local street or highway transportation by accepting and discharging persons as may offer themselves for transportation either at temporary street or highway parking places or along the course or within the terminal on which the motor vehicle is or may be running or operating or that may be operated for the transportation of passengers, from place to place in or about the city from any street curb, alley or highway stand or stands, or parking or stopping places, either on calls or otherwise, from so, is declared to be a commercial motor vehicle for hire.
(B) This section does not include motor vehicles owned and operated by hotel companies or hotel proprietors, between their hotels and depots, for their exclusive use and benefit in conveying their guests to and from the same.
