§ 30.016  BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY.
   (A)   Chief administrative body; departments under control of Board. The Board of Public Works and Safety shall be the chief administrative body of the city and have control of the day-to-day operations of the Police Department, Fire Department, Street and Sanitation Departments and the Utilities Department.

   (B)   Three-member Board.
      (1)   The members of the Board of Public Works and Safety shall be the Mayor and 2 persons who have been voters of the city for at least 1 year immediately preceding the appointment.
      (2)   These 2 persons shall be appointed by the Mayor and shall serve at the pleasure of the Mayor subject to I.C. 36-4-11-2.

   (C)   Mayoral appointments of department heads. The Mayor shall appoint the Chiefs of the Police and Fire Departments, the heads of the Street and Sanitation and Utilities Departments subject to approval by the Board of Public Works and Safety. The appointees serve at the pleasure of the Mayor subject to I.C. 36-4-11-2.

   (D)   Clerk of the Board. The Clerk-Treasurer shall serve as Clerk of the Board of Public Works and Safety without additional compensation.
   (E)   Board meetings. The Board of Public Works and Safety shall make rules governing the time and place for holding regular meetings and the procedure to be used for calling and giving notice thereof.
   (F)   Powers of the Board. The Board of Public Works and Safety shall have any and all powers given to it by ordinance and as set forth in the applicable Indiana Code provisions.
