(a) This Code of Conduct reflects and supports trust and public confidence in government. It ensures that Village of Bratenahl ("Village") officials and employees share a common basis and understanding for acceptable conduct extending beyond governing legislative provisions. It recognizes that officials and employees of the Village are agents of public purpose and hold office for the benefit and well-being of the public and are bound to observe in their official acts the highest standards of morality and to discharge faithfully the duties of their office regardless of personal consideration, recognizing that the public interest must be their primary concern. It recognizes that officials and employees have an obligation to serve constituents in a conscientious, diligent, and responsive manner, acknowledging that as leaders of the community, they are held to a higher standard of behavior and conduct, while encouraging independent, impartial and duly responsible service to constituents. Their conduct in both their official and private affairs should be above reproach.
(b) This Code of Conduct provides guidelines to foster the highest standards of personal and professional conduct which demonstrate and reflect upon the integrity of Village officials, employees, and citizens, including their processes and accomplishments. It is intended to promote trust and public confidence in government.
