The owners of all residences, buildings or structures within the township to which street numbers have been assigned by the County 911 Public Safety System must have the street number displayed on a sign that meets all of the requirements identified below, regardless of whether the street number is already displayed on the residence, building, structure or property. For purposes of this Part, a STREET NUMBER is an address number established in accordance with the County-Wide 911 Public Health Safety System with reference to the adjacent road or street assigned and given to a particular residence, building or structure by the County 911 Public Safety System and the United States Postal Service.
1. Placement of signs.
A. The sign must be placed at least 15 feet from the paved part of the public road, but not more than 30 feet from the paved part of the public road. If the road is gravel or dirt, the sign must be placed at least ten feet from the edge of the berm closest to the house, building or structure, but not more than 25 feet from the edge of the berm.
B. When a driveway is present, signs must also be within ten feet of the driveway. When a driveway is not present, signs must be centered in front of the residence, building or structure.
C. Signs must be on the same side of the roadway as the residence, building, or structure.
2. Visibility of signs.
A. All signs must be placed vertically on a post.
B. The bottom of all signs must not be lower than three feet from the ground and not higher than six feet from the ground.
C. All signs must be visible from both directions at all times. No sign is to be placed behind trees or shrubs or otherwise in a location where the view of the sign from the public road is obstructed.
D. For a residence, building or structure that has been assigned a street address containing one or two numbers, the sign must be at least 12 inches in height by six inches in width, with a green background color. For a residence, building or structure that has been assigned a street address containing three or more numbers, the sign must be at least 18 inches in height by six inches in width, with a green background color.
E. All numbers must be a least four inches high by at least one and one-half inches wide.
F. All numbers must be in white reflective standard Arabic and visible on both sides of the sign.
3. Compliance to display signs.
A. A compliant sign must be installed by the property owner within 90 days after the effective date of this Part. For new construction, the property owner shall install a compliant sign within 90 days of the date on which a street number is assigned by the County 911 Public Safety System. Once installed, the sign must remain installed and in compliance as long as the requirements of this Part remain in effect.
B. All costs and work associated with the purchase, installation, maintenance, repair or replacement of a sign and post shall be the responsibility of the property owner.
C. Signs that meet the requirements of this Part, and a post, will be available for purchase, at the option of the property owner, by the Township Volunteer Fire Department and/or the township. Any sign and post purchased through the Township Volunteer Fire Department and/or the township shall become the sole and exclusive property of the property owner following purchase. In the event that a property owner elects to not purchase a sign through the Township Volunteer Fire Department and/or the township, the property owner shall be responsible for ensuring that the sign is in compliance with the requirements of this Part.
