1163.01  DEFINITIONS.
   (a)   ALLEYS: Minor ways used primarily for vehicular access to the back or side of properties otherwise abutting on a street.
 
   (b)   ARTERIAL STREETS OR THOROUGHFARES: Major traffic ways used primarily for fast and heavy traffic.
 
   (c)   BLOCK: A piece or parcel of land bounded on all sides by public highways, streets, streams, parks or railroads rights-of-way, or a combination thereof.
 
   (d)   BUILDING LINES, SETBACK LINE: A “Building Line” or “Setback Line” is a line generally parallel to a street or front lot line defining the limits of a front yard in which no structure may be placed above ground.
 
   (e)   COUNCIL: The Council of the Village of Bradford, Ohio.
 
   (f)   CROSSWALK: Is a right-of-way, dedicated to public pedestrian use, which may be required to provide proper access to schools, playgrounds, shopping centers and other facilities.
 
   (g)   CUL-DE-SAC: A dead end street with turn around facility.
 
   (h)   EASEMENT: A grant by the owner of land for specific use by the public, a corporation or certain persons.
 
   (i)   ENGINEER: A registered engineer authorized to practice civil engineering as defined by the Registration Act of the State of Ohio.  The “Engineer” may be either an individual or a firm or association of engineers and may be employed by Council either permanently or on a job basis.
 
   (j)   LOT: A plot, parcel or tract of land occupied or proposed to be occupied by a Building or an integrated group of buildings, including such open spaces as are arranged and designed to be used in connection with such building and having its principal frontage on a street or place.
 
   (k)   MINOR STREET: Streets used primarily to provide access to abutting properties.
 
   (l)   PLAT: A map, drawing or chart upon which the subdivider’s plan of the subdivision is presented and which he submits for approval and intends in final form to record.
 
   (m)   PRIMARY STREET: A street which is primarily a major traffic artery connecting major communities and districts, and serving large volumes of traffic.
 
   (n)   RIGHT-OF-WAY: The width, between property lines of a street, alley, crosswalk or easement.
 
   (o)   ROADWAY: The wearing surface of the vehicular way, generally paved, including moving and parking lanes.
 
   (p)   STREETS: A way for vehicular traffic designated as a street, highway, thoroughfare, parkway, road, avenue, boulevard, lane, place, drive or otherwise.
 
   (q)   SUBDIVISION: Refers to any real property, improved or unimproved, or portion thereof shown, on the last preceding tax roll as a unit or as contiguous units which are divided for the purpose of sale whether immediate or future by any subdivider into two (2) or more parcels.
 
   (r)   SIDEWALK: A portion of the street right-of-way, outside the roadway but not including tree lawn or planting strip, if any, and which is paved for the use of pedestrian traffic.
 
   (s)   SECONDARY STREET: A street which serves district traffic, connecting minor streets to the primary street system and to district centers.
 
   (t)   STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS AND DRAWINGS: The Village of Bradford Standard Specifications and Drawings, set forth the detail in construction design and specifications, material and design criteria, adopted from time to time by the Planning Board with the approval of Council, which are required for all improvements, including but not limited to storm sewers, pavement, curbing, gutters, headwalls, culverts, sidewalks, and appurtenances to each, constructed and installed in any public or private place in the Village.
 
   (u)   WORDS NOT DEFINED: Words used in the Subdivision Code not herein specifically defined are to be construed in their customary dictionary sense.
