Disinterments are only permitted Monday through Thursdays on non-holidays. No disinterment will occur on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday or a city observed holiday.
(A) Disinterments shall be permitted only in accordance with city ordinances.
(B) Family members requesting the disinterment shall submit a notarized letter to the Public Works Director clearly stating the intention of the family. The letter shall include signatures of all family members who are requesting the disinterment.
(C) All disinterments shall be directed and handled by a licensed funeral director. The city's role in disinterment is to open and close the grave sites. The city will not perform the disinterment. The city will not open and close a grave without the involvement of a funeral director.
(D) Funeral directors making arrangements for the disinterment of any body or cremation shall be deemed duly authorized agents of the owner of the burial easement and personal representative or next of kin of the deceased and shall assume financial responsibility for all costs associated with errors in the location of graves resulting from inaccurate instructions to cemetery personnel.
