(a) Fire walls or party walls shall be constructed of solid brick, masonry or reinforced concrete and properly bonded with Portland cement mortar or cement limestone mortar and the thickness of the fire wall or party wall of the uppermost twenty feet of height of such wall shall not be less than twelve inches and in no other part of such wall shall it be less than sixteen inches in thickness, provided that in no case shall the thickness of such walls be less than that required for bearing walls. Required fire walls and party walls shall extend not less than three feet above the roof except where the roof is of fireproof construction. Such walls shall be constructed tightly under the underside of the roof slab or deck.
(b) Every opening in a required fire wall or party wall shall be protected on each side of the wall with an approved automatic fire door, or automatic fire device, i.e., fire damper duct work.
