§ 30.09 ENTRY TO COURTHOUSE.
Entry to the Boone County Courthouse shall be restricted in accordance with the Boone County Courthouse Security Plan and recommendations of the Boone County Sheriff beginning June 1, 2017, such that:
   (A)   During normal business hours, any individual, including employees, may enter or exit the Courthouse only through the south entrance (Main Street entrance). During nonbusiness hours, employees with keys to exterior doors may enter and exit any entrance.
   (B)   All county employees shall be issued photo identification badges (“IDs”). An employee may show his/her ID to the Courthouse deputies upon entering the Courthouse and will not have to pass through the screening process. Any bags or packages earned by the employee may be subject to search or scanning by the Courthouse deputies.
   (C)   All members of the public or employees without an ID shall be subject to screening upon entering the Courthouse. Screening may include metal detection or physical search (pat-down of exterior clothing) depending upon the circumstances, and at the discretion of the Courthouse Deputies. All purses, packages or briefcases shall be screened by passing through an X-Ray machine (or similar equipment). Attorneys with ID cards are exempt from screening, including their briefcases, purses and court materials.
   (D)   No person shall be permitted to enter the Courthouse carrying or possessing a firearm, knife, weapon or explosive device. All such weapons or materials shall be confiscated by the Courthouse deputies and disposed of in accordance with state law.
   (E)   Law enforcement personnel that are appearing at the Courthouse in the normal course of business may be allowed to retain their firearm while in the Courthouse. Off-duty law enforcement officers who are in the Courthouse appearing for a hearing in a civil matter in which they, or a family member, are an interested party, witness or litigant will not be allowed to enter the Courthouse with a firearm (does not include when the Officer is appearing as a witness in a criminal matter, regardless of whether he/she is on or off duty).
   (F)   Attorneys (members of the Indiana bar in good standing) that are members of the Boone County Bar Association, or other attorneys that conduct business frequently at the Courthouse, may be issued ID cards in the Sheriff’s discretion. Employees of local attorneys may be issued ID cards if they consent to a background (criminal history) check through the Sheriff’s Office. Any attorneys that have their license to practice suspended or revoked shall have their ID revoked/confiscated.
