§ 154.04 PROPERTY ADDRESSING.
   (A)   Assignment of official permanent property addresses. All residences; commercial; industrial; and public structures located in Boone County shall be assigned a permanent city-type street address. Structures located on the north side of an east-west street/road and those located on the west side of a north-south street/road shall have an even numbered property address. Structures located on the south side of an east-west street/road and those located on the east side of a north-south street/road shall have an odd number. Street addresses are to be assigned based on a measurement of the distance from the nearest grid line to the front entrance of the structure, not to side drives or to other entrances. A structure shall always be addressed to the street/road in which the front entrance faces.
   (B)   Determining a property address.
      (1)   An official street address shall contain no more than five digits with the first digit, or the first two digits if the structure is located ten or more miles from the north-south baseline, indicating the milepost or distance from the base lines. The second or third digit shall indicate the block number which will change each 528 linear feet. The last two digits indicate the number of 12-foot intervals from the structure to the nearest block or grid line.
      (2)   Example: A home is located 1,000 feet east of County Road 500E on the north side of CR 4008. The address would start with the number 5. The second number would be the block number and would consist of the number 1 (1000528=1+472). The final two digits would be 4 and 0 (472-12= 39.333 rounded to an even 40). The final address of the structure would be 5140 E CR 400 S.
      (3)   Note: At the far western and far eastern portions of Boone County where the distance from the base lines exceed ten miles (for example 1000E or 1100W), then each address will contain five digits and the first two numbers will indicate the distance from the base line. Example: 11230 E. CR 100 N.
   (C)   Placement and size of address numbers.
      (1)   Once a property address has been assigned to a specific structure, it shall be the responsibility of the property owner or resident to provide the address number on the structure or on the mailbox or mailbox post in rural areas. Numbers are to be placed on structures in a location which faces the street upon which it is addressed. The first four or five numbers of the address and the complete address if desired should be placed on the structure near a main entry door or on a cornice, porch and the like located above the main entry door. The letters should be located at least five feet above the threshold on the right side of any entrance door. On rural mailboxes, the numbers and lettering shall be located on the mailbox or the mailbox post. Numbers and lettering shall be located on the side of the mailbox or the mailbox post facing the postal route carrier. Numbers and lettering may be placed on both sides of the mailbox or post if so desired by the customer. In all situations property number lettering shall exceed two inches in vertical height and the color of the letters shall contrast with the background of the mailbox or mailbox post in order to be readable.
      (2)   Street address numbers and lettering should be placed in a visible location on all residential, commercial, industrial and public structures on or before January 1, 1994.
