§ 30.04 RETAINMENT OF STANDARD SERVICE WEAPONS UPON RETIREMENT.
   (A)   Purpose. The purpose of this section shall be to authorize the Sheriff of Boone County to permit eligible merit police employees to retain his or her standard service weapon upon retirement. The purpose of this section is to show appreciation to merit police employees of Boone County, Indiana, who retire after at least 20 years of service.
   (B)   Specification. When an eligible merit police employee, as determined by the Sheriff, of the Boone County Sheriff’s Department retires after at least 20 years of service, he or she is authorized to retain his or her standard service weapon (handgun) and receive a retired badge in recognition of his or her service to the Department and the public. Upon his or her retirement, the Department shall issue to him or her an identification card that gives his or her name and rank, signifies that he or she is retired, and notes his or her authority to retain his or her service weapon.
   (C)   Effective date. This section shall be in full force and effect immediately upon adoption by the Boone County Board of Commissioners for those officers retiring after enactment of this section.
