The mayor and members of the council are paid a salary, the amount and payment of which must be prescribed by ordinance. An ordinance amending the salary of the mayor and members of the council must be adopted at least sixty (60) days prior to the next succeeding municipal election. Any increase in salary must be passed by a five-sevenths majority of the council. When authorized by the council, its members can be compensated for their expenses incurred in connection with the city’s business. The city manager and all subordinate officers and employees of the city are paid salaries fixed by the council.
