The city manager is hereby authorized to cause any street intersection to be designated and maintained as a stop intersection and to designate the streets upon which vehicles shall stop before entering such intersection, as directed by the city council from time to time. Whenever any intersection has been so designated, the city manager shall cause the same to be identified by the erection of signs indicating which vehicles approaching the intersection shall stop.
