If a well is placed in production, it shall be inspected periodically by the chief building inspector in accordance with the requirements of this article. A notification of status change from producing well to abandoned well shall become necessary for any well which has not produced, or which has not been used for subsurface injection into the earth of oil, gas, salt, water, or oil field waste for a period of nine months, unless permission to hold said well for a longer period of time is obtained from the state railroad commission. The operator shall, upon request of the chief building inspector, furnish verification of production for the purposes of this section.
