The Police Chief or the Chief’s appointed officer shall be the custodian of all personal property (other than motor vehicles) coming into the possession of the City's Department of Public Safety. The Police Chief shall provide for the storage of such personal property and for maintaining records of when and how the property was acquired, and the names and addresses of owners or finders. The Police Chief shall make reasonable diligent effort to locate rightful owners and return the property. ThePolice Chief shall turn over all personal property consisting of money or securities to the City Treasurer, who shall hold such property for six months after any required notice is sent out, and thereafter convert such property into liquid assets of the City, unless claimed by the lawful owner or finder as provided herein.
