§ 240.03 Police Chief Duties.
The Chief of Police shall perform all the duties by law conferred upon him or her for the preservation of the public peace. He or she shall have control over his or her Department and shall be solely responsible for its care and condition. He or she shall make a report quarterly to the City Council, as to the condition of the equipment and the needs of the Police Department. He or she may submit additional reports and recommendations at any meeting of the City Council and shall report suspensions by him or her or the Police Department at the first meeting of the Council following such suspensions. He or she shall be responsible for the proper training and discipline of the members of the Police Department, and may suspend any member for refusal or neglect to obey orders pending final action by the Council on his or her discharge or retention.
