288.03 DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS.
   For those lands under the jurisdiction of the City Forestry Department, the Commission shall:
   (a)   Study the problems and determine the needs of the City relative to a municipal tree and public garden care and planting program, develop a written plan for such municipal care and planting program, work to create the City as an arboretum, and make recommendations from time to time to Council as to legislation concerning the tree and public garden program and activities for the Municipality.
   (b)   Establish the recommended species and varieties of trees and major landscaping to be planted in the tree lawns and in public gardens.
   (c)   Disseminate news and information regarding the selection, planting and maintenance of trees and public gardens within the corporate limits, whether the same be on private or public property.

   (d)    Pursue, develop and maintain programs and activities that identify and promote the City of Bexley as an Arboretum, in such a way as to:
(1)   Encourage additional visitors, residents, and commercial and not for profit entities to come to the City,
(2)   Bring in new and complementary economic activities within the City through the program,
(3)   Be an additional avenue for obtaining grants and voluntary contributions from individuals and other entities in financial support of the duties and functions of the Tree and Public Gardens Commission, and
(4)   Existing subsection (d) hereof shall be re-designated as subsection (e), and
(5)   Whenever possible, coordinate with the goals of the Bexley Land Use Strategy recommendations, especially with regard to the Alum Creek Study area.

   (e)   When requested by the Mayor or Council, consider, investigate, make findings, report and recommend upon any special matter or question coming within the scope of its work.
   (f)   Approve landscaping plans at the request of Council or other City Commission.
