§ 31.01 DEFINITIONS.
For the purpose of this subchapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
   EMPLOYEES.
      (1)   A full-time EMPLOYEE (FT employee) is any town employee working 40 hours or more per week for a minimum of 26 consecutive weeks. FT employees are eligible for paid leave, as set forth below.
      (2)   A part-time EMPLOYEE (PT employee) is any town employee working fewer than 40 hours per week. PT employees are ineligible to receive paid vacation leave, paid sick leave, paid personal days and paid bereavement leave, and will receive only the benefits specified herein. PT employees may take non-paid leave without loss of seniority rating if such leave is approved by the PT employee’s supervisor.
   PROBATIONARY/REGULAR STATUS.
      (1)   New FT and PT employees are employed with the understanding that the first 6 months of employment are PROBATIONARY, and the town is not obligated to retain the employee during this period if the employee’s work is unsatisfactory for any reason. An employee may resign without prejudice during this period.
      (2)   Use of unused and bereavement leave during the FT employee’s PROBATIONARY period is permitted only if the FT employee’s supervisor approves it pursuant to the limits stated under the particular leave policies.
      (3)   REGULAR employees are employees who remain continuously employed after the completion of the 6-month PROBATIONARY period. Status as a regular employee does not constitute a contractual obligation or a guarantee of continual employment.
