When a vehicle is parked in a space adjacent to which a parking meter is located in accordance with this chapter, the operator of the vehicle shall, upon entering the parking space, immediately deposit or cause to be deposited the required coin of the United States in the parking meter and put the meter in operation. Failure to deposit the coin and put the meter in operation shall constitute a violation of this chapter and shall subject the operator to the penalty prescribed in § 482.99.
