6-2-2: FIRE CHIEF:
   A.   Authority And Appointment: The head of the fire department shall be the fire chief, who shall have the control and supervision over all employees of the department, subject to the order and direction of the village administrator. The village president shall appoint, with the consent of the board of trustees, the fire chief.
   B.   Duties:
      1.   The chief of the fire department shall have control and be responsible for the fire department and the performance of the duties of the members of the department. The fire chief shall have control of all fires, emergency medical service, hazardous materials, and all fire apparatus and shall maintain such apparatus in good operating condition. He shall keep such records and make such reports regarding the activities of the fire department as may be required by the village administrator, and he shall make an annual report to the president and board of trustees.
      2.   The fire chief shall be responsible for the training and conduct of members of the department and may make or prescribe such rules and regulations for the conduct and guidance of the members of the department as he shall deem advisable. Such rules, when approved by the village administrator, shall be binding on such members.
      3.   The fire chief shall investigate the cause of all fires occurring in the village as soon after their occurrence as practical, and shall keep a record of such investigation and the evidence of any criminal act or violation of any village ordinance in connection therewith. (2016 Code)
