250.17   COMPENSATORY TIME IN LIEU OF COMPENSATION.
   (a)   All employees may elect, with the approval of their Department Head and the Mayor, to receive compensatory time off in lieu of paid overtime. Employees shall choose compensatory time prior to performing the work as overtime. Compensatory time will be granted as one and one-half hours off for every hour worked as overtime. The maximum accrual of compensatory time will be 120 hours per employee.
   (b)   Employees shall be permitted to use accrued compensatory time upon submission of a written request to their Department Head, if the use of that time does not unduly disrupt Village operations. The Department Head will notify the employee requesting use of compensatory time as to that request's approval or denial within three working days of receipt of the request. The Village reserves the right to create and modify rules governing the amount of compensatory time that can be used over a given period of time and to cancel approved compensatory time in the event of a Village emergency. The use of compensatory time is considered time off and is not counted for the purpose of overtime compensation.
