(A) A local disaster may be declared only by the Mayor, or his/her interim emergency successor. It shall not be continued or renewed for a period in excess of seven days except by or with the consent of the Board of Trustees. The Coordinator/Director shall present a written disaster order or proclamation to the Mayor, or his/her interim emergency successor, to execute as soon as is practical, though it shall not be a prerequisite to the declaration of a local disaster, nor shall the failure or inability to execute a written disaster declaration impede or waive any rights under this chapter or state or Federal law. Any order or proclamation declaring, continuing or terminating a local disaster shall be given prompt and general publicity and shall be filed promptly with the Village Clerk.
(B) The effect of a declaration of a local disaster is to activate the emergency operating plan of the village and to authorize the furnishing of aid and assistance thereunder.
