For the purpose of this subchapter the following definition shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
SERVICE STATION. A place of business where gasoline, or any highly volatile fuels for motor vehicles or internal combustion engines, are sold or offered for sale at retail, and dispensed into the fuel tanks of such motor vehicles. This shall include self- service which is a facility where flammable and combustible liquids used as motor fuel are stored and subsequently dispensed from fixed approved fuel dispensing from fixed approved fuel dispensing equipment into fuel tanks of motor vehicles by persons other than the authorized service station attendant. This definition shall also include a private storage tank and dispensing of such products for the same purpose as those served by a service station, whether the storage is maintained for the use of benefit of the owner, lessee, agents or employees of either, or of any others. The requirements covering service stations shall also govern underground storage maintained at general storage plants and places other than service stations, so far as applicable.
