§ 33.01 BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS.
   (A)   Creation; composition; term. There is hereby created a Board of Fire and Police Commissioners, consisting of three members whose terms of office shall be three years and until their respective successors are appointed and have qualified.
   (B)   Qualification; oath; bond; removal. The members of the Board shall posses the qualifications required of other officers of the village, shall take oath or affirmation of office, and give bond in the same manner as other appointive officers of the village. They shall be subject to the removal from office as such other officers.
   (C)   Duties generally. The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners shall appoint all officers and members of the Fire and Police Departments of the village, except the Chief of Police and the Chief of the Fire Department, which appointments shall be vested in and made by the President and Board of Trustees. All appointments made by the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners shall be from the rank next below that to which the appointment shall be made, other than that of the lowest rank.
   (D)   Compensation. Each member of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners shall receive as compensation for his or her services such amount as may be set by the President and Board of Trustees.
   (E)   Selection and duties of Secretary. The Board may employ a secretary or may designate one of its own members to act as such. The Secretary shall keep the minutes of the Board's proceedings, shall be custodian of all papers pertaining to the business of the Board, shall keep a record of all examinations held, and shall perform such other duties as the Board shall prescribe. The Secretary shall receive as compensation for his or her services such sum as may be determined by the President and Board of Trustees, which shall be in addition to his or her compensation as a member of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners, if he or she is a member.
