Water meters shall be maintained by the village and repaired or replaced when necessary. All three-quarter-inch and one-inch meters will be replaced by the village when necessary without charge except in the case of damage due to freezing or other negligent forms of abuse. In such cases, the village may bill the customer for the costs to repair or replace the meter. For meters larger than one inch, it shall be the responsibility of the property owner or customer to pay any costs for repair or replacement of any meter when meters fail to record usage within plus or minus 2% accuracy. The village has the right to test any meter for accuracy upon written notice to the owner/customer during reasonable working hours. If a meter fails to register properly, the Water Department will prepare an estimated bill based upon historical usage records.
