§ 73.15 EMERGENCY VEHICLES.
   (A)   Fire Department vehicles; fires.
      (1)   Upon the approach of a Fire Department vehicle, drivers of vehicles shall comply with the provision of this chapter relating to the approach of authorized emergency vehicles.
      (2)   It shall be unlawful for the driver of any vehicle, other than one on official business, to follow any fire apparatus in response to a fire alarm closer than one block or to park any vehicle within the block where fire apparatus has stopped to answer a fire alarm.
      (3)   It shall be further unlawful for the driver of any vehicle to drive over an unprotected hose of the Fire Department without the consent of the Fire Chief or the assistant in command.

   (B)   Operation of vehicles on approach of authorized emergency vehicles. Upon the immediate approach of an authorized emergency vehicle, when the driver is giving audible sign by siren or bell, the driver of every other vehicle shall yield the right-of-way and shall immediately drive to a position parallel to, and as close as possible to, the right-hand edge or curb of the highway clear of any intersection and shall stop and remain in such position until the authorized emergency vehicle has passed, except when otherwise directed by a police officer.

   (C)   Lights on emergency vehicles. No oscillating, rotating or flashing lights are permitted on any motor vehicle, except as follows:
      (1)   Red oscillating, rotating or flashing lights are permitted only on:
         (a)   Local law enforcement vehicles and police vehicles of the state or federal government;
         (b)   Vehicles of local fire departments and firefighting vehicles of the state or federal government; and
         (c)   Vehicles which are designed as ambulances and while responding to an emergency call for the purpose of conveying sick or injured persons.
      (2)   Amber oscillating, rotating or flashing lights are permitted only on:
         (a)   Second Division vehicles designed for towing or hoisting disabled vehicles while actually being used for such purposes;
         (b)   Motor vehicles or equipment of the state, local authorities and contractors while engaged in maintenance or construction operations within the limits of construction projects;
         (c)   Vehicles or equipment used by engineering or survey crews while actually engaged in work on a highway;
         (d)   Vehicles of public utilities and municipal departments while engaged in maintenance or construction operations within the limits of construction projects;
         (e)   Oversized vehicle or load moving under permit issued by the Department of Public Works and Buildings of the state;
         (f)   The front and rear of motorized equipment owned and operated by the state or any political subdivision thereof, which is designed and used for removal of snow and ice from highways; and
         (g)   Such other vehicles as may be authorized by local authorities.
      (3)   Blue oscillating, rotating or flashing lights are permitted only on:
         (a)   The front of any motor vehicle owned by or fully operated by a volunteer firefighter, paid firefighter, part-paid firefighter or call firefighter while responding to a fire call; and
         (b)   Police Department vehicles in cities having a population of 500,000 or more inhabitants.
