Effective May 16, 2017, pursuant to Section 28-15 of the Illinois Township Code (60 ILCS 1/28-15), the city shall exercise all duties and responsibilities of the Belleville Township officers as provided in the Township Code, the Property Tax Code, and the Illinois Public Aid Code, including but not limited to the provision of funds to and administration of the public aid program provided for under Article VI thereof under Section 12-3.1 of the Illinois Public Aid Code (305 ILCS 5/12-3.1). The city may employ such staff as necessary to effectively provide general and community assistance to city residents in need. Pursuant to Section 28-20 of the Illinois Township Code (60 ILCS 1/28-20), the city may close up all unfinished business of Belleville Township and sell and dispose of any of the property belonging to Belleville Township for benefit of the inhabitants of the city.
