§ 33.022 DUTIES OF POLICE OFFICERS.
   (A)   Execution of duties. It shall be the duty of police officers to obey punctually and to the best of their ability all the orders of their superiors in the Department and to remain at their posts during the time prescribed as the hours of duty, and not to leave the same, except in discharge of their duties. They shall, to the best of their ability, preserve peace, order and quiet at and in the vicinity of their posts, and they shall be active and vigilant in the discharge of their duties, and shall watch the conduct of persons of known or suspected bad character.
   (B)   Arrest. A police officer shall arrest without warrant or process any person found committing any offense against any law of the state or any ordinance of the city, or found aiding or abetting the commission of any such offense. He or she shall arrest or report all persons found throwing filth, dirt or rubbish in any street, alley or public place in the city.
   (C)   Entering public places. Police officers on duty shall not enter any house of ill-fame, or any house or place of amusement, except in the immediate discharge of their duties.
   (D)   Gratuities. No police officer shall accept from any person while in custody or after such person has been discharged, or from any other person for or on his or her account, any gratuity or reward.
   (E)   Absence. No police officer shall leave the city without permission from his or her superior officer.
