§ 33.017 DUTIES OF CHIEF OF POLICE.
   The Chief of Police shall perform the following duties.
   (A)   Management of Department. He or she shall make such disposition of the police force as the public good may require. He or she shall be held responsible to the Mayor for the efficiency and good conduct of the force under his or her command; and he or she shall be governed in the discharge of his or her duties by the lawful commands of the Mayor.
   (B)   Duties. He or she shall execute all writs or other process issued by justices of the peace or police magistrates in city cases, collect all fines, forfeitures and penalties which may accrue to the city, remove all nuisances and do and perform all duties which may be enjoined upon him or her by ordinance or resolution of the Council.
   (C)   Ex-officio License Inspector. The Chief of Police is hereby designated as ex-officio Inspector of Licenses and it shall be his or her duty as such Inspector of Licenses to ascertain whether persons carrying on the business, occupations and pursuits required to be licensed have obtained necessary licenses. It shall be the further duty of the Inspector of Licenses to make inspection of the businesses, occupations and pursuits for which licenses are required, investigate complaints of violations with license ordinances and file charges against persons violating any of the license ordinances.
   (D)   Preserve peace and quiet. He or she shall cause the public peace and quiet to be preserved, and shall see that all the laws and ordinances of the city are enforced and complied with, and whenever any violation of the ordinances shall come to his or her knowledge, he or she shall make, or cause to be made, the requisite complaint before some justice of the peace or police magistrate of the city and prosecute the offender for such violation and he or she shall attend to procuring the evidence for the city.
   (E)   Attend suits. He or she shall attend all suits before the justices of the peace and police magistrates of the city, to which the city is a party, on behalf of the city and, if necessary, shall call upon the City Attorney to direct the prosecution of the offender.
   (F)   Attend Council meetings. He or she shall attend all meetings of the Council, shall notify each Alderman of any special meeting of the Council which may be called. He or she shall keep the key to the rooms of the Council, and shall keep said rooms in proper order and condition for the meetings and other business of the Council and Mayor.
