141.02 AUXILIARY POLICE UNIT.
   (a)   There is hereby created in the Department of Public Safety an Auxiliary Police Unit, the members of which shall be appointed by the Service-Safety Director.
   (b)   Auxiliary police officers shall serve so long as the Director may direct, or until a resignation submitted by such member is accepted by the Director.
   (c)   The members of the Auxiliary Police Unit shall be residents of Logan County, Ohio, and may not be under the age of twenty-one years at the time of their appointment. They shall be required to provide sufficient background information for investigation into their physical, moral and legal ability to so serve and shall comply with such other requirements as are provided by the rules and regulations provided for by the Director.
   (d)   The Auxiliary Police Unit shall obey the chain of command of the Police Department, which shall have control of the assignment, training, stationing and direction of work of such Unit. Such Unit shall have all police powers but shall perform only such police duties as are assigned by the Police Department command and shall act only when in the prescribed uniform which shall be worn only at such times and places as are prescribed by the Police Department command.
   (e)   The Director shall prescribe rules and regulations for the organization, administration, conduct and control of the Auxiliary Police unit, including the type of uniform which shall be worn by its members.
   (f)   All services performed by auxiliary policemen shall be on a voluntary basis and within the City. Members shall be paid one dollar ($1.00) annually; they are not eligible for membership in the Police Relief and Pension Fund; and they shall not be in the classified service of the City.
   (g)   This section is declared by Council to be an exercise by the City of its police powers for the protection of the public peace, health, property, safety and general welfare, and neither the City nor any agent or representative of the City, an officer appointed hereunder or any individual or other entity, who in good faith executes any executive order, rule or regulation promulgated pursuant to the provisions hereof shall be liable for injury or damage sustained to any person or property as the direct or proximate result of such action.
