§ 105.10 PROTECTION OF TREES AND FLORA.
   (A)   In order to maintain the overall urban forest within the city, reasonable efforts shall be made to replace trees that are removed and to protect quality trees and flora that are endangered.
   (B)   Trees removed by decision of the Greenscape Commission or by natural causes shall be replaced at locations within the urban forest of the city on a one-for-one basis within one year. The location and species of any replacement tree or flora shall be determined by the Greenscape Commission.
   (C)   Trees and flora of desirable species and good health shall be protected as much as possible from damage during construction, sidewalk repair, curb and street repair and utility work above and below ground and other similar activities. The zone of protection shall include the ground beneath the canopy of the tree.
   (D)   When damage to a sidewalk panel occurs from intrusive trees and tree roots, an inspection should occur by the city. A description of the issue and a photo should be made along with a recommendation to correct the sidewalk panel issue. Prior to any removal of tree roots or the tree itself, it is recommended to use one of four recommendations to stabilize the sidewalk panel: temporary patch, sidewalk meandering, sidewalk ramping and flexible materials, in order to save the tree. Should the city decide to remove the sidewalk panel and remove the roots, and ISA certified arborist should supervise the pruning of roots.
