Unless specifically defined below, words and phrases used in this chapter shall be interpreted to have common English usage, to give effect to the purpose set forth in § 90.02(B), and to provide reasonable application of this chapter. For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
CERTIFIED PLAYGROUND SAFETY INSPECTOR. An individual who possesses a current and valid Certified Playground Safety Inspector certificate issued by the National Playground Safety Institute.
CHILDREN. Individuals who are two years of age through 12 years of age.
COMPONENT. Any portion of a piece of playground equipment that generates specific activity and cannot stand alone (i.e., slide, swing, ladder).
OPERATOR. Any entity which operates a public playground, including a church, subdivision, homeowners association, condominium association, hotel, motel, resort, camp, office, hospital, shopping center, store, day care, child care setting, restaurant, private or public school, and any governmental agency, entity or district.
PLAYGROUND. An improved area, indoors or outdoors, designed, equipped and set aside for children’s play that is not intended for use as an athletic playing field or athletic court, and shall include any and all playground equipment, surfacing, fencing, signs, internal pathways, internal landforms, vegetation and related structures.
PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT. A fabricated structure intended primarily for play by children located at a playground which has at least one surface designated and intended for play by children and which is anchored to or built into the ground and not intended to be moved.
PUBLIC PLAYGROUND. Any playground open to the general public or a portion thereof.
