§ 33.239 HAND AND ARM PROTECTION.
   Any employee actively working in a work environment where there is a potential for injury to the employee's hands or arms must wear the appropriate protective gear. Anytime an employee is working with sharp objects, loading/unloading any material that could cut or puncture skin, and heat penetration there will be a requirement to wear gloves made of a thick protective material (leather). Glove or glove system for fire brigade shall be tested in accordance with the test methods contained in the NIOSH 1976 publication, the development of Criteria for Firefighter's Gloves; Volume H, Part II: Test Methods. One activity in particular that requires the use of protective gloves is dumping trash barrels. Anytime an employee is working with a corrosive liquid or acid, the employee is required to wear rubber gloves that will protect the hands and arms. Anytime an employee is welding or cutting with an acetylene torch the employee will be required to wear protective gloves and/or shirt that will adequately protect the hands and arms. When an employee is at risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens, the employee is required to wear protective latex gloves or its equivalent.
