§ 33.185 INTRODUCTION.
   (A)   The purpose of this exposure control plan, developed in accordance with the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, 29 CFR 1910.1030, is to eliminate or minimize employee occupational exposure to blood or other infectious body fluids. Other potentially infectious body fluids include: semen, vaginal secretions, cerebrospinal fluid, synovial fluid, pleural fluid, pericardial fluid, peritoneal fluid, amniotic fluid, saliva in dental procedures, and any body fluid that is visibly contaminated with blood, and all body fluids in situations where it is difficult or impossible to differentiate between body fluids.
   (B)   The Office of Administrative Services and the Safety Committees of each city department will review the exposure control plan at least on an annual basis and recommend updates when necessary. This review will take into account any new or modified tasks and procedures which affect occupational exposure and new revised employee positions with occupational exposure. It will also reflect changes in technology that eliminate or reduce exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Annual consideration and implementation of appropriate commercially available and effective safer medical devices as well as safer medical devices designed to eliminate or reduce exposure will also be documented.
